Now, before we lock our pets inside the house and never go out in the yard again without wearing a hazmat suit – let’s talk some truth about this “tick apocalypse” and see if there is a solution.
In the last few days, there have been articles posted on Channel 5 news and Fox25 News websites.
The Fox25 article is titled “Experts warn of potential ‘tick apocalypse’ as spring approaches.”
The Channel 5 article is titled “Why 2017 could be very bad year for Lyme disease.”
Kind of scary, right?
Both articles are warning about the increase in the potential for Lyme disease and the increase in the tick population for this spring.
But is there really going to be a “tick apocalypse?”
Let me explain…
Every year ticks can be bad. This year will be no different.
But as I was walking on the property I looked down to check my pants and there they were – ticks crawling up my pants. Luckily I had on light-colored pants and could easily swat them away. But they were definitely out and active even though it was the middle of February.
Most of the time we don’t start mosquito and tick treatments until April or May. So it is a little early.
But is there really going to be a tick apocalypse?
From what I have seen already with the tick population I do think it will be a bad year for ticks. I don’t think that they’ll be taking over the world in some type of apocalypse or anything but it is definitely something that you will need to be aware of.
Check your pets regularly for ticks, and if you go outside near the edge of the woods or lawn be sure to check yourself for ticks when you go back inside.
When I was treating for ticks in Worcester the other day I was basically walking on dead sticks and leaves and they still managed to find their way onto me – so even if you’re in short grass be sure to check for ticks after.
The thing that sets ticks apart from other pests is that they can carry and transmit disease, unlike bed bugs which can carry, but are not known (as of now), to transmit diseases.
Ticks are really sneaky because they can bite you and stay on you or your pet for days and you’ll never know that they’re there.
Of all the pests that I deal with on a daily basis, from mice to bed bugs to termites – ticks definitely scare me the most because of those factors.
There is no doubt that ticks are going to be bad again this year. And it is something you will have to be aware of especially if you have outside pets.
But similarly to other common pests like mice, termites, and carpenter ants – if you don’t do anything to protect your home and property, they will become a big problem.
So although ticks might be bad again this year – there is a solution.
At Bug Bully we offer a 5-step solution for dealing with ticks. It is very effective. The tick apocalypse can certainly be reduced around your home.
Many customer report great results from our tick program including a customer in Auburn, MA, that just emailed us to make sure that we would be treating her yard again for ticks this year…
“Ok great! We really liked the tic fog too, we didn’t have any problems all year! Can we do that again?”
So the bad news is that ticks are already out and they are active. Ticks will be bad this year.
But the good news is that there are safe and effective tick treatments that will help to reduce the tick population on your property.
You won’t need to buy a hazmat suit to go out into the yard but you should be aware of ticks and check people and pets regularly.
